Jowar Daliya Upma Recipe

  • 1 cup jowar daliya (broken sorghum grains)
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon asafoetida (hing)
  • 2-3 green chillies, finely chopped
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tomato, finely chopped
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup coriander leaves, chopped

  1. Dry roast the jowar daliya in a pan until it turns light brown and keep it aside.
  2. Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, and asafoetida. Once the mustard seeds start crackling, add green chillies and onion. Saute until onion turns light brown.
  3. Add chopped tomatoes and cook until they turn soft and mushy.
  4. Add roasted jowar daliya to the pan and mix well.
  5. Add 2 cups of water and salt to taste. Mix well and let it cook on medium flame for 15-20 minutes or until all the water is absorbed and jowar daliya is cooked.
  6. Turn off the flame and add lemon juice and chopped coriander leaves. Mix well.
  7. Serve hot with coconut chutney or any other chutney of your choice.

Note: You can add any vegetables of your choice like carrots, peas, beans, etc. while cooking to make it more nutritious.
